Effective communications has been at the core of every successful social movement.

Over the past decade, a movement has emerged to ensure that civil society has the communication tools and skills it needs in the era global networks. We call this emergent force the 'social tech movement'.

These people guide civil society in the strategic, creative and political use of the Internet. They are on the front lines, creating digital social movements for the future.

The social techies are on the frontlines...

Commons Group both supports and is a part of the social tech movement.

We have helped to start or nurture notable social tech organizations and projects like rabble.ca, the Association for Progressive Communications, Web Networks, OneWorld Canada and Web of Change.

We have also worked to build up the capacity of people and organizations doing on–the-ground social tech work around the world. We do this by providing engaged, hands on support with strategic planning, business planning and fundraising for social tech organizations.
