Sarah Knox

As a partner in the Commons Group, Sarah shares her extensive knowledge of community and the Internet. She has worked since 1995 to bridge the gap between community groups working for social change and technology. Her energy and expertise have assisted hundreds of individuals and organizations as they have made the leap to using the Internet effectively. Building on her background in training and capacity building, Sarah is now helping organizations to develop better ways to build community and work together online.

Internet Consulting Projects

Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation ( MCZCR) - IMS Application: Developed and implemented a usability test for Web-based accounting and booking application used by community-based translation agencies incorporating task analysis, user testing and cognitive walkthroughs with users. (2001)

Pollution Watch - Created and implemented an online launch strategy, including web media contacts and mass email bulletins, for web-based community polluter location tool. (2001)

Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation (MCZCR) - IMS Application: Develop an evaluation process and co-facilitated a review of the application from the user. Assessed and edited operations manual for Web-based accounting and booking application used by community-based translation agencies. (2001)

Advocates of Community-based trainers and Educators of Women (ACTEW) Developed concept and wrote fundraising proposal for project seeking to build electronic learning networks and online policy resourses. (2001)

rabble.ca Assisted with planning and implementation of the online launch for this Canadian alternative news site. (2001)

Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) - Online Facilitation: Developed and implemented an eight-week online facilitation of policy discussions with technical liaisons working in settlement agencies. (2000)

Settlement.org - Fundraising Strategy: Conducted needs assessment and developed fundraising strategy for the Settlement.org extranet and Internet sites. (2000)

Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) - Technical Support Assessment: Developed a report based on interviews, surveys and market research in order to develop an assessment of the technical support needs of over 70 settlement agencies. (2000)

Employment History

Web Networks VolNet Coordinator: Staff member of Internet Service Provider serving non-profits and voluntary agencies across Canada. Implemented all aspects of this Industry Canada funded project. Delivered Internet connectivity and computers. Developed and delivered basic and advanced Internet training and documentation to 200 organizations. (1999-2000)

Web Networks Community Liaison: Developed and delivered customized Internet training and workshops at conferences, forums and organizations. Developed training documentation.
